If you are in the wood manufacturing industry, then you must know the importance of the moisture content of the wood. The majority of the manufacturing problems occur because of the incorrect moisture content of the wood.

Why does moisture content matter so much for wood?
●
With changing Moisture content various
properties of wood also change.
●
Wood tends to change its size ( shrink
or swell) and change shape (split or warp) with a change in Moisture Content.
●
Other properties of wood like how easily
it glues, how easy they are easy to work on, etc, also depend upon its moisture
content.
How does Moisture Content of Wood Change?
The
main reason behind the change in the Moisture Content of wood is Relative
Humidity. When there is a change in the humidity around the wood, its Moisture
content also changes.
That’s
why every wood manufacturing facility must regulate the relative humidity in
the facility building. The humidity level should match that of the customer’s
home or office to prevent any moisture content-related issues with the wood
product.
How
to Correct Moisture Content in Wood?
●
Too Dry Wood
If you find that
your wood is too dry( using a wood moisture meter), move the wood to a room
that has relative humidity above 1%-2% of the equilibrium moisture content. This process can take
several weeks but needs to be done to restore its previous quality.
●
Too Wet Wood
If
the moisture content of the wood is higher than the required level, move the
wood to a room that is warm and has relative humidity 1%-2% less than desired equilibrium moisture content.
